Inground Swimming Pools: What is the Best Kind Of Lighting?
If you are looking for the best kind of lighting for your inground swimming pool, there are basically two options to choose from: Fiber optic pool lights and LED pool lights.

The actual bulb is housed in a sealed box, which is installed in the shell of the pool and can easily be taken out of the water, when the bulb needs to be exchanged. There is no need to lower the water level to change the LED bulb.
Many people might think, that fiberoptic pool lights are safer, since the actual light source for fiberoptic pools is housed outside of the pool in a dry box. But there is no need to be concerned, when using an LED placed under the water. The only advantage of having the actual bulb and power away from the pool and removed from the water is, that it is a little faster to change the bulb in this scenario.
When using fiberoptic technology the actual light travels through the fiberoptic cable, which than illuminates the pool through a special fitting. A possible disadvantage - which was reported by some customers - is, that the lighting is not as bright as with LED bulbs. With a lifetime of up to 50.0000 hours LED bulbs also last almost twice as long as the bulbs used for fiberoptic lighting, which already can last three to seven years.
Like fiberoptic lights, LED lights can change color automatically or remote controlled. The switch and control box can be installed as close as ten feet to the pool or up to 50 to 100 feet away if you want to be able to control the lights from inside your home. Fiberoptic lights are usually installed as close to the pool as possible, simply because the fiber optic cable is very expensive, about 40$ per foot.
Another big advantage of LED pool lights is the environmental factor. LED bulbs use 80 percent less energy when compared to other pool and spa lighting. This is not only good for the environment, but also for your budget.
