Outdoor Living Trends for 2012

Posted by Josefine Koehn on Sat, Aug 25, 2012 @ 00:09 AM

Landscaping_WestbrookvilleIf you love to spend a lot of time in your backyard, you are not online. A recently conducted survey by the Americans Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) shows that the trend goes towards an undemanding outdoors space for lots of entertainment.

According to the 2012 Residential Landscape Architecture Trends survey gardens and landscaped spaces are popular with 94.9 percent of all respondents, for 92.5 percent an outdoor living space, such as an outdoor kitchen or entertainment space, is as important.

Dining and Sitting Outside
Not surprisingly a grill was with 97.4 percent the most in-demand feature for 2012, followed closely by low-maintenance landscapes (96.6 percent). 95.8 percent would not want to miss their fireplace or fire pit and 95.7 percent of all respondents want to take their dinner on a nice dining area outside. 86.9 percent prefer installed seating, such as benches, seat walls, ledges, steps and boulders, to weatherized outdoor furniture (81.2 percent).

Extending the Entertainment Space
Lighting features are also a popular choice, with 91.1 percent of Americans planning to extend the use of their outdoor space in the evenings and at night. 39.9 percent also install outdoor heaters, while 33.1 percent use outdoor cooling systems. Televisions or projections screens and stereo systems are popular with more than half of all Americans.

“The economic recovery remains tepid, but the skilled services of landscape architects and demand for outdoor spaces outfitted with defined amenities remains high,” says ASLA Executive Vice President and CEO Nancy Somerville, Hon. ASLA.

More Art than Playgrounds in Americas Backyards
Outdoor structures are also in demand. 95.7 percent of Americans enjoy a terrace, patio or deck, 70.3 percent rate outdoor kitchens or ovens as popular. Pergolas are popular with 85.2 percent of all Americans, and about half of all Americans enhance their outdoor living space with a Pavilion. According to the study there is more art in Americas backyards than there are play structures. 60.2 percent rated sculptures and murals as popular whereas just 54.7 percent enjoy tree houses, swing sets and other child friendly back yard features.

Swimming Pools and Water Features in Demand
Americans also love their pools (79.2 percent), but not quite as much as their spas (80.4 percent), including hot tubs, Jacuzzis, whirlpools and saunas. Decorative water elements such as waterfalls, grottos, splash pools or bubblers are popular with 89.9 percent of the respondents.

What Water Features Can Be Installed With Fiberglass Pools?

Posted by Josefine Koehn on Wed, Aug 01, 2012 @ 00:09 PM

fiberglass_pool_dealer_westbrookvilleToday’s fiberglass pools are (almost) as customizable as a concrete pool. Already the shell can be ordered with a variety of features such as vanishing edges, attached spas, and water jets. Waterfalls or water walls, deck jets or water archs can be included in the design around the pool.

Spa Jets
With the Fiberglass Pools by Leisure Pools USA you always have the option to install spa-jets. Other possible features include a whole spa seat area, in pool table and a swim jet system so that you can even exercise in smaller size pools. Go to our Swimming Pools section or contact Albert Group Landscaping to find the best style and options for your needs.

Waterfalls
Today waterfalls are one of the most popular water features. While waterfalls used to be extremely expensive, time-consuming projects, the revolutionary concrete additive pioneered by StoneMakers makes it possible, to build amazing projects at a fraction of the cost - and much faster. While you can build a whole grotto with a big waterfall streaming down into the pool, you can also choose a smaller version or install some water jets in your retaining wall. No matter, which size you choose: a waterfall is one of those features, which gives your backyard oasis that special touch.

Water Walls or Weeping Walls
This is a less dramatic option than a waterfall. Water Walls require the construction of a raised wall next to the pool. Instead of sheets of water, there is just a trickle coming down the side of the wall: a nice alternative to built-in jets.

Deck Jets
You can add a lot of fun to your pool by including a few deck jets. Many jets are easily adjustable. You can change the heights or the entry point, let the streams overlap or create multi-stream archways. The jets can be installed on the deck or inside a retaining wall. Add some LED or fiber optic lights and you can create your own night-time spectacular.

Swimming Pool “Must haves”

Posted by Josefine Koehn on Thu, May 17, 2012 @ 06:08 AM

swimming_pool_dealer_chester_nyImagine yourself walking out to your backyard after a long day in the office. Sparkling blue water is awaiting you, the waterfall is lit up and you just have to slip out of your robe to step into a warm bubbling hot tub. Here are some more ideas to ensure, that you can truly enjoy your swimming pool project.

Comfort
Especially up north, a good heat pump is essential to ensure the enjoyment of your swimming pool. Heat pumps do not actually produce heat, but pump the existing heat from it’s surroundings in to the water. The result is an efficiency rate of 100 percent.

Hot Tubs and Spas are always a great addition to your pool. They are great for relaxation and you will find yourself using them year round - not just on colder days.

Safety
According to the Freakonomics-authors Levitt and Dubner “an unprotected pool is more dangerous to your child than a loaded gun.” And honestly, how much fun can a swimming pool be, if you constantly have to be on the watch out. The new mesh fences are much less of an eyesore and will keep your little ones safe.

Jamie Snyder of The Albert Landscaping Group also recommends the installation of a safety pool cover. The new covers are very strong and durable. Up to 12 adults are able to stand on one. “Even I was surprised how much weight the new covers can carry,” says Snyder. Pool covers also help to reduce evaporation and to keep the water temperature up.

Fun
There are countless ways to add some more fun to your swimming pool. Let’s start with slides, an all time favorite for every child. They are easy to install and are great add-ons to existing swimming pool areas. Water features are also an all time favorite with children, and they also will add to the aesthetics of your swimming pool area. When chosen and installed carefully, LED Lights and Fountains can be a breathtaking addition and will ensure a big “wow”-effect at your next pool-party.

Landscaping
Another way to enhance your swimming pool area is great landscaping. Why not design a seating or BBQ-area, a fire pit or even an outdoor kitchen with your pool project? Contact Jamie Snyder of the Albert Landscaping Group to discuss your ideas and the best options for your backyard oasis.

Swimming Pools: Why You Should Consider a Water Feature

Posted by Josefine Koehn on Mon, May 07, 2012 @ 16:01 PM

Swimming_Pool_Water_Features_Landscaper_NYSight, Sound and Fun: These are just three of the reasons why no Swimming Pool should be without a water feature. Let us introduce some examples of common water features and explain their benefits. This will make it easier for you to decide what would work best for your personal backyard oasis.

Sight
Nothing enhances your swimming pool more than the shimmering sight of falling water. Especially when living up north it is important to integrate your swimming pool into your outdoor living space even when the days are getting a little cooler.

Jamie Snyder of The Albert Landscaping Group recommends wall accents, water walls, and LED-illuminated spill over spas, cascades and fountains or - even more breathtaking - the integration of a natural looking waterfall. That will not only add to the aesthetics of your swimming pool area but also bring a little Zen to your backyard.

Sound
Don’t underestimate the soothing sound of an outdoor water feature. It is simply very tranquil and relaxing to float in the pool or sunbathe on the deck while listening to the trickling sound of water flowing in a constant stream. Flowing water makes it easier to relax and helps to blend out the stress of our hectic everyday life.

Fun
There are fountains and bubblers, deck jets and much, much more. Those features do not only add to the aesthetics for your pool area but will add some extra fun while splashing in the water. Deck Jets can be placed on the deck or even in an existing planter. When dedicating an extra pump and control, you will able to create a variety of water shows and light effects for the evening cocktail party. And during the day the kids will have fun, spraying each other.

These are just some of the many options available. Let us know, how you enjoy your water feature. And if you are planning to add one, don’t hesitate to contact Albert Group Landscaping-expert Jamie Snyder.

Outdoor Waterfeatures Increase the Home Value

Posted by Josefine Koehn on Thu, Apr 26, 2012 @ 57:07 AM

waterfall_outdoor waterfeature_ny_monroeSiddartha, the main character of Herman Hesse’s classic tale, finds tranquility and peace while sitting next to a trickling stream. Every mother knows, that even the steady sound of a fish tank-filter can calm a restless baby. And most probably everyone has experience how stress and tension gets washed away when resting next to some kind of moving water.

Benefits of pondless waterfalls
Today it is easy to add a beautiful water feature to your own yard. There are many benefits to it. Landscaping-expert Jamie Snyder of Albert Landscaping Group recommends to get started with the installation of a waterfall. “A pondless waterfall does not take up much space, but can easily be expanded”, he explains. “Just make sure to leave enough space around the base.”

While the water feature will be an eye-catching addition to your yard, it will also increase the value of your home. There is a good reason, why waterfront property is usually priced quite a bit higher. Today customized waterfeatures can easily be added anywhere in the yard.

Fast Installation
“Water features like waterfalls or pondless waterfalls used to be extremely expensive, time-consuming projects. But thanks to a revolutionary concrete additive pioneered by StoneMakers, these projects can now be done at a fraction of a cost, and completed much faster than before, with minimal disruption to your home routine”, says Monroe landscaper Jamie Snyder.

While the maintenance just requires a few minutes a week, the benefits of the microclimate are amazing. According to the US Department of Energy water helps to temper heat and is a beneficial feature for every environmental friendly garden. As a natural gathering place, the water feature will also add to your family space; see it as an extra outdoor room, like a deck or patio.

Seven Reasons to Consider a Backyard Water Feature

Posted by James Snyder on Wed, Jun 08, 2011 @ 28:03 PM

water

Deciding to build a backyard sanctuary is almost like adding another room to your home. Outdoor water features create a setting of peace and tranquility, giving you an easy means of escaping whatever different types of stress the day can throw at you. From a practical standpoint, they can also add significant value to your home. Water features like waterfalls or pondless waterfalls used to be extremely expensive, time-consuming projects. But thanks to a revolutionary concrete additive pioneered by StoneMakers, these projects can now be done at a fraction of a cost, and completed much faster than before, with minimal disruption to your home routine.

Whether they are large or small, water features like those mentioned above can bring a feeling of serenity to your backyard. The tranquility associated with the sound of trickling water can really help you unwind after a long, tiring day. Here are seven reasons to consider adding a water feature to your backyard home beautification projects.

1. A backyard water feature is incredibly appealing from an aesthetic viewpoint. There’s just something special about both seeing and hearing running water; there’s a certain aura to it. StoneMakers concrete mimics the look of natural stone and allows for a nearly limitless choice in colors, so you will not only have a work of art in your backyard, you can have it custom made so it’s unique to your style.

2. It’s very low maintenance. You only need to spend a few minutes a week to take care of a water feature constructed with StoneMakers concrete.

3. It’s an attention grabber. A beautiful water feature will turn a lot of heads and make your neighbors and friends admire your home even more.

4. Backyard water features are relaxing. The sound of trickling water combined with the soothing sight of a waterfall can help your daily stress melt away.

5. They don’t take up a lot of space. A pondless waterfall, especially, can be designed and constructed to fit in just about any area of your backyard.

6. If a backyard water feature is built using StoneMakers’ proprietary concrete mix, it will not only be beautiful, it will be durable as well. StoneMakers concrete is much stronger than typical concrete.

7. A water feature using StoneMakers concrete can be quickly constructed, often taking less than 24 hours from start to finish.

We will be more than happy to detail how we can bring a feeling of peace and tranquility to your backyard, and do it in a way that won’t bust your budget or create extended disruption to your home routine. Call (845) 283-8787 to find out more.
